Photographic Experimental Show
Looking at progression of ideas by exhibiting my work, I decided to frame two prints of my expressive imagery and also the moving image that I have mentioned in a previous blog post. Along with my work, I displayed this title and statement of the pieces:
Expression
By Ross Mead
These works of self-portraiture look in detail at the capabilities in the human face of how much one can contort. Exaggerated and focused, these images exhibit the model performing for the camera. Every wrinkle, every scrunch, every twitch and twinge can be seen with the heightened clarity of the photographs and video. Human expression is subject to interpretation. What one might see as a smile, another might view as snarky, a frown could be interpreted as a snarl, shock can be confused for surprise. Intrigue and wonderment ensue from ambiguity and amplification. What is really being portrayed by the model trying to hold the strained facial expression?

Feedback from this show told me that I should move forward with new models, with more focused and planned expressions, and consider more intricate lighting for the moving image aspect of my work.
